And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7)
The Bible speaks of the peace that God puts in his people as one that is hard to understand. This is because true peace comes from within. It’s not about what you see with your physical eyes or what is transpiring around you. You won’t always have control over what happens around you. True peace comes from God. God gives believers a sort of peace that calms their internal storm while in the middle of a storm. Believers know that the physical is very different from the spiritual. You could be going through the worst times in the physical realm but in the spiritual God is with you. If you know him and he knows you he will never forsake you in your days of trouble. Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me. (Psalm 23:4)
On my journey through life, I have come to realise that nothing matters but God’s will for us. It doesn’t matter who you are, what matters is who God says you are. It doesn’t matter what you want from your life, what matters is what God wants from your life. It doesn’t matter what you want for yourself, what matters is what God wants for you. What God wants for us is what we call our life’s purpose or destiny.
Contrary to what people think not every life we live is the life God intended for us to live, and not all paths we take will lead us to our destiny. In life, we have a choice to either go according to God’s plan for us or to map out our own path. This is when people say “your destiny is in your own hands”. Your destiny should be in God’s hands and your path should be ordered and guarded by him.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)
It’s important to resist the temptation to map out our own plans without first passing them through God to find out if it has received his seal of approval. If we let God guard our decisions we will always have a successful outcome because he means well. A successful outcome does not necessarily mean the best outcome at that moment but in the long run, you will realise it was the best outcome for you. God sees what we can’t. He sees the big picture. The end result.
I’m at a stage in my life where my number one desire is for God’s will to be done in my life. I thank God that I matured in the spirit to the point where I started to see the world in a completely different light. Nothing else matters to me if it isn’t ordained by God. No career is more important than the one my creator has set aside for me, because that is where I will be most fulfilled. No relationship will be as successful as the one the Lord prepared for me, that is where I will find peace and satisfaction.
It feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders knowing I don’t have to worry over what steps I need to take in life. All I have to do is lay all my plans and worries at the throne of God through prayer and allow him to help manoeuvre me through life. The safest place a person can be is in the will of God. You have to have faith and trust in God knowing he will never lead you astray or forsake you. Things won’t always play out the way we want and they won’t always be easy, but if we are patient and put our faith in God, they will make sense eventually.
When I was in the University I studied Biomedical Science with the hopes of transitioning into medical school to become a Doctor. If you had asked me if that was the career I wanted I would have said no, but I went for it anyway because I thought it was what was expected of me. What you might ask was a biomedical scientist in training doing daydreaming and writing novels and poems? I always knew I wanted to be a writer, I just didn’t think it was the path I was expected to take as it didn’t seem like the most secure option. I’m glad that everything that happened after I graduated led me back to a career in writing, because this is my passion, and this is where I find fulfilment.
Sometimes God puts desires in our hearts that although might not seem like the best option, will be the option to bring us the most satisfaction. I’m a testament to that. I can’t imagine doing anything else other than writing. It goes so perfectly well with my personality. I can only imagine the needless chaos I would have found myself in had I insisted on continuing on the path I had chosen for myself previously. When you commit your dealings to God and things don’t work out the way you planned, it could be God telling you he wants you to take a different path. One that will bring you happiness, fulfilment, peace et cetra.
I’ve never felt better, and I’ve never looked better because I feel good on the inside. I’m not up for stressing myself and forcing my way into situations that are out of God’s will for me. I’m at peace because I have committed my life to the creator of the Heavens and the Earth. The only danger I am in is everything going right for me.
