Knowing Your Authority in Yeshua Hamashiach

July 7, 2022

The greatest lesson I learnt on my journey with God is the power and authority I have in Yeshua Hamashiach.

When Yeshua died, his blood formed a binding contract that was signed by God which states that every human on earth that falls under the contract is a new creation in Christ. The contract washes away their sins before God and puts them under the law of grace.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:7)

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. (Ephesians 2:13)

The contract also states that if you believe, you can plead the name and blood of Jesus on any and every part of your life and bring light and life into it. Believers have the power to trample on devils and cast out demons in the name of Jesus.

Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.” And He (Jesus) said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” (Luke 10:17-20)

Satan doesn’t want you to know you have more power over him than he does over you.

Satan is fallen. He has lost power. The only power he has is the power of deception.

The biggest deception of satan is:

1. Convincing the world he does not exist – This gives him the opportunity to attack humans unrestrained and from the shadows. You can’t protect yourself against an enemy you don’t know.

2. Convincing believers he has more power over them than he does – This is the greatest lie ever told. Satan will have you thinking he has more power over humanity than he does. This won’t be the first time he overestimated his power and importance. This is what led to his fall from grace. He was an angel of high rank and assumed because of his rank he could be God. We should all know the story by now. Lucifer challenged God and was defeated by Arch angel Micheal. He and the angels that followed him were cast out of heaven. Notice that God himself didn’t battle with lucifer. This is because God outranks him. Micheal who was of the same rank as lucifer was the one tasked with defeating him.

“Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they were defeated and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.” (Revelation 12:7-9).

When you are a believer and you have come to Christ, the blood of Yeshua covers you. No amount of attack from the enemy will affect you. A believer is under the jurisdiction of God, and God is possessive and protective over what is his. The whole of Psalm 23 speaks of him being our Shepherd and how he protects and provides for us. Psalm 91 is another good psalm that shows the protection of God over his children.

When you know your power as a believer, nothing will have power over you. Not witchcraft, not voodoo, not poison, nothing. You are now part of a different kingdom, and you don’t operate under physical laws but under the laws of God.

The only way Satan can attack a believer is if God allows it, in which case it is for a reason and a season. This can be seen in the story of Job who was so faithful to God that God allowed for his faith to be tested.

Believers can also be deceived into handing their authority over to Satan. Satan will gaslight you into thinking he has authority or control over you when in fact he is waiting for you to fall into the trap of believing he does. When you believe he has power over your life, you have given that power over to him. Yeshua himself was tempted by Satan when he fasted for 40days in the wilderness. The story can be seen in Matthew 4:1-11.

The first encounter Yeshua had with the devil shows how deceptively cunning he is. He started by telling Yeshua: “If you are the Son of God…” The balls on satan right? If you allow him, satan will have you questioning who you are. That’s what he is best known for. Deception.

The devil waited till Yeshua was in a vulnerable state as he hadn’t eaten for days and he used that weakness as an avenue to attempt to get Yeshua to bow to his will. It’s when you are at your weakest and experiencing all sorts that the devil tries to either gain access into your life or expand his territory thereby diminishing God’s influence in your life. When experiencing negative life experiences or emotions believers know to stand in their authority in Christ and proclaim the power they have as God’s children.

The only way to defeat Satan and push him out of your territory is by using the word of God. This is how Yeshua defeated him when he was tempted. He quoted scripture. The word of God is a sword in the spirit realm. You quote it and it will cut through the devil’s lies.

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. (Ephesians 6:17)

If you have accepted Yeshua as your saviour and you have started your walk with God, stand fast and firm in God’s promises. You’ll know God’s promises for you and the authority he has given you by studying the bible. If you go through trials and persecution as a believer, be thankful and never sway from the straight and narrow path. Often times it is God’s way of handing you keys to his kingdom. If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31).
