When Yeshua lived on Earth was he melanated or not?
What is the complexion of God? Is he an old caucasian man with a long white beard? Where did this idea come from in the first place?
Does it even matter?
The short answer is yes and no.
It matters because of the power of representation. It’s like asking a child to pick between a black doll and a white doll. The child would pick the doll that is most familiar to him/her. This would be the doll that he/she sees the most on TV, in the shops, or other children playing with. Does this mean there aren’t other varieties of dolls out there to pick from? No. It means the power of representation is at work.
I understand the power of representation so I get why mainstream media often depicts God as a light-skinned man with a long white beard.
If you are dark-skinned, and every image of God you see on mainstream media is of a light-skinned man, you would eventually see every light-skinned human as a god, or superior to you. It’s the power of representation with an unhealthy dose of mind games.
Why should anyone expect caucasians to depict God or Yeshua as anyone other than a caucasian man? It’s their movie, their entertainment, their audience, and their agenda.
I don’t take offence to this because I see the wisdom in it. Why should you elevate any race other than your own? If I get super rich today the first people I will elevate are those closest to me. It’s common sense. Melanated people need to stop taking offence to how they are depicted in movies and mainstream entertainment ruled over and directed by non-melanated people. It’s not something to take offence to, it’s called human nature. It’s human nature to want to favour those closest to you. It would be to their detriment for mainstream media controlled by caucasians to depict God and Yeshua as anyone other than a caucasian man. This should be expected.
What would be troubling is you seeing God as anyone other than yourself. No one has seen God and lived to tell the tale so there should be no depiction of him/her in the first place. If you close your eyes to pray to God and all you imagine is an old caucasian man with a long white beard don’t be mad at yourself, it’s the image that has been in circulation for the longest. Think of Santa and Zeus. They have several things in common, don’t they? Sure they do. Are they the one and only true God though? Of course not.
We were all created in the image and likeness of God, so therefore a more accurate depiction of God should be the reflection you see when you look in a mirror.
I’m not promoting self-worship. Self-worship is another trick of Satan to use pride as a tool to promote the worship of self rather than the worship of God. I’m promoting belief in self. You don’t have to look outside yourself to find an accurate depiction of God when no one has seen God.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the only depiction of Yeshua you see today is of a light-skinned man.
I personally don’t have an issue with how he is depicted and I’ll tell you why. If it makes you more comfortable to accept Yeshua and his gift of salvation by depicting him as your race then you should go for it. Yeshua could be depicted as any race and I wouldn’t bat an eye because I know better.
The complexion of your skin isn’t what will guarantee you a smooth-sailing afterlife. The worth of your soul is what matters. At the end of the day, the human body will perish and only the soul that houses the spirit will live on forever. What complexion is the human soul?
As a daughter of the Kingdom of YHWH, I know better than to get my understanding of God or Yeshua from mainstream media. I’m talking about Hollywood movies, mainstream music, social media, etc. Mainstream entertainment isn’t run by those playing for the Kingdom of God. They play for the opposing team. You will NEVER get the truth out of people that lie for a living. I don’t care how accurately they try to depict God, Yeshua, or the stories in the Bible.
I also know better than to take offense at the human depiction of Yeshua. This is literally the least important factor about him. The most important thing about Yeshua is his gift of salvation to humanity.
Do you want to know what a Hebrew Israelite looked like over 2000 years ago when Yeshua walked the Earth? Do your research. Do you want to know what God looks like? Look in a mirror.
