The Wandering Heart

February 14, 2023
Once upon a time, a wandering heart wondered.
She wondered if the heart that wandered from her ever wondered.
She knew it was time to stop wondering and wander.
She wanders on till she gets to a Cross Road, and is faced with a decision.

To her left is the Universe she longed to inhabit but was denied access to.
The gates are creaking open, and a welcoming party awaits to usher her in.
She looks down at the currency in her hand, her golden ticket to the long-awaited Universe.
She looks back up and peers through the gates that are now halfway open.
She walks over to the gatekeeper and says to him.
“Riddle me this. What is valuable, and what is a trophy.”
He smiles at her and points to her gold necklace and fur coat. “They are valuable.”
He peruses her from her hair to her feet and winks. “You are a trophy.”
“Riddle me this.” She continues. “What’s real, and what’s an illusion?"
He pauses and his smile widens. “Love. Love is real.” He replies. “Time is an illusion.” He adds.
She shakes her head. “Love isn’t Love unless it is true…Your Love isn’t true."
She lets go of the golden ticket with a sigh of relief and lets it drop to the ground.
“Time was unkind to you.” She says to him and walks away.

She is back at the Cross Road and must make a decision
To her right is the universe she only partly longed for but always had access to.
The gates are flung wide open and the friendly faces of the welcoming party eagerly awaits.
She walks over to the gatekeeper and says to him.
“Riddle me this. What benefits you, and what benefits me?”
His smile wavers but remains. “We can be of benefit to each other.”
She contemplates for a moment and shakes her head. “What benefits you will be of no benefit to me”
She turns to leave and he calls out to her.
“Wait! What benefits you, is of benefit to me.”
“What benefits me, is mine and mine alone.” She replies.
He contemplates and then nods. “Then I hope we shall never become foes, for I fear that if that day comes, what benefits you will be of no benefit to me.”
She nods and walks away.

She is back at the Cross Road and looks ahead.
It’s a lonely straight and narrow path that leads far beyond her vision.
She looks back, looks to her left, and then to her right.
“Forward ever.” She tells herself. Whatever she seeks can only be found ahead.

The wandering heart wanders down the narrow path confident that whatever awaits will be real, and of true benefit to her.
