Betrayal

October 25, 2021
Lying in a pool of her own blood
Her life flashed before her eyes
Words replayed over and over in her head
“You are as strong as your weakness”

Time and time again I’ve pondered
If I take a step towards the other side will you pull me back?
A feast was prepared in the presence of enemies
Sacrifices to be made that can’t be unmade

Your vision blurred by your anger
Her vision blurred by her tears
Your intentions to build a bridge out of fire
Her intentions to build a fortress around her heart

A lonely string drifting in a frozen wasteland
The wind blows it up the steps of a Hermits home
Attached to the end of the string is a broken heart
Cuddled in the palms of wisdom it shall grow healthy and strong

“You are as strong as your weakness”, says the Hermit
Let your weakness die with your tears
Let the poison seep away through your blood
Let the cold floor numb your body, and let this be a reminder of what betrayal feels like.
